Dorgil
Hello my name is Dorgil jean Cardin, I am a rehab technician I live in Port au Prince with my parents, before I went to Learn physical therapy techniques I studied linguistics and I used to teach English . After the earthquake I saw many people that were in need of rehabilitating. They could not perform on it because we had a lack of physical therapists and Rehab technicians. After the earth quake a University in the USA called Lomalinda University started to work in partnership with a Hospital in Haiti called HAH( Hôpital Adventiste D Haiti) to offer a special program to train people that are interested in Rehabilitation. This is where I went in Learn Physical Therapy for 2 years. I choose to go there because a lot of people were in need and it the best way for me to help them with an open heart. I choose to work in New Life mission because during my clinical I had the chance to works with kids that have disabilities and other physical disorders in Myriam center in Saint Louis du nord. This is where my love started developing for kids and enjoying working with them because they are most needed. I think working in New Life it's not something that happen at random,In fact, I think that it happen for well determined purpose. I will do the best I can to help these adorable kids.

Who we are:
Big Step Missions is a 501(c)3 organization based out of Dothan Alabama. The mission was birthed our of the smile of the young lady in the photo. While on a mission trip to the mountains of Haiti I watched this girl for a few days. She was unresponsive to me and she lay in a bed moaning most of the day. Before I met Maniella, I was very uncomfortable around anyone with special needs.
As I read the Bible under a mango tree in Haiti, God showed me that I could let her stay in her bed, lonely, unresponsive, and never show her love and attention or I could pour into her. I could get over my fear of the unknown and spend time getting to know what she needed. That day I put her in her wheelchair and I pushed her around. When her feet touched the grass she let her head fall back slowly and she smiled from ear to ear. I heard her giggle and I saw joy in her eye's. I fought back the tears and thanked God for this young lady who helped my heart see that giving of my time, effort, resources and love is repaid with something that truly fulfills.

My name is Kevin and these kids changed my life. After my first trip in 2015 I found myself going back every few months to spend more time and try in some way to connect and show my love for each one. Each trip was different and I learned more and more about each individual and what I could do to be a blessing to them. The truth is, they are a blessing to me!!!!
I brought several teams with me and I saw the change in their lives also. When I saw what some of the missionaries who are occupational therapist and physical therapist were doing and the awesome impact they were having I knew I had to do something to help.
That is how Big Step Missions got started. My passion is to help make a difference in the lives of the physically and mentally challenged in Haiti. I partner with therapist who have been working in Haiti for years and know what works and what does not. My goal is to get the therapists what they need and help grow the community outreach programs that keep children with their families. I also could not do this without the help of partners like New Life Children's Home in Port Au Prince.
New Life is the home for over 120 children of which 30 + are special needs. New Life's founder and director Miriam Fredrick has been working in Haiti for over 30 years and has saved thousand of men, women and children through her work. New Life provides feeding programs in the mountains of western Haiti, they provide clinics, doctors, pastors conferences and work with many US based churches and organization to provide water and more to remote villages.
